World Chess Olympiad: Moldova’s results in fifth round

The men’s team of Moldova achieved an important draw in the struggle with the squad of Poland in the fifth round of the World Chess Olympiad. The women’s team won by 2.5 – 1.5 against the team of Bangladesh, IPN reports.

The men’s team included grand masters Viorel Bologan, Viorel Iordachescu, Dmitry Svetushkin and master Sergey Vedmediuc. Viorel Bologan and Sergey Vedmediuc drew, while Dmitry Svetushkin won. Of the women’s team, grand master Elena Partac drew, while masters Diana Baciu and Paula-Alexandra Gatu won.

In the sixth round on September 8, the men’s team of Moldova meets the chess players of Iran, while the women’s squad plays against Lithuania’s team. In the rounds played so far, the men’s team won three victories, had a draw and suffered a defeat, while the women’s team scored three victories and suffered two defeats.

The 42nd World Chess Olympiad is taking place in Azerbaijan’s Baku between September 1 and September 14. A number of 180 countries are competing in the Open section, while 140 countries in the Women section, over 1,580 players overall.
