World Bank reiterates support for new Government of Moldova

The World Bank reiterated its support for the reformation program and development policies of the new Government of Moldova. In a meeting with Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, WB Country Manager for Moldova, Europe and Central Asia Alex Kremer confirmed the World Bank’s willingness to help the new Government of Moldova ensure stability in the financial-banking sector, stimulate the economic development and increase the social protection of the Moldovan people in this difficult period, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, Alex Kremer expressed his optimism about the development prospects of Moldova and the World Bank’s readiness to cooperate. “Our recommendations concerning the measures that are to be taken to successfully implement the reforms are contained in the policy notes that the World Bank worked out in concert with other development partners,” he stated.

For his part, Valeriu Strelet said that he appreciates the continuous political support and the financial assistance provided by the World Bank to important sectors of Moldova. He underlined the WB’s role in providing compensations for alleviating the consequences of the drought and in promoting reforms in the energy and public administration sectors.

The cooperation between Moldova and the World Bank is based on the Country Partnership Strategy for 2014-2017. The total value of the projects that are to be financed within this strategy is US$450 million.
