Work&Travel fraud case sent to court

The Buiucani District Prosecutor's Office has completed proceedings on a case involving the manager and accountant of a firm called Global Business Consultanta, who are accused of having defrauded over 150 students of almost 5 million lei on promises of finding them jobs in the US and Canada under the Work&Travel Program. The case has been sent to court and if the duo is found guilty, they will serve up to 15 years in prison. Buiucani District Prosecutor Eduard Masnic told a press conference that Petru Jitaru, the manager, maintained that the money taken from the applicant students was transmitted to the new owners of the firm when he decided to sell it. However, the investigation found that that the sale deal was a fake. The first court hearing is scheduled for August 20.
