Works to modernize Chisinau water treatment station could start until August

The modernization of the water treatment station in Chisinau will be launched before August if SA Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) transfers 300,000 euros (about 4.5m lei) to the Dutch company that will carry out the works, within 10 days, the director of ACC Constantin Becciev said at Monday’s meeting of the City Hall, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Becciev said that the money is the first tranche needed to implement the project. If the sum is not transferred in due time, the works to collect and store the mud in geotubes will be postponed until autumn. After the equipment is taken to the treatment station, a team of specialists from Moldova and the Netherlands will start installing it and then put it into operation. The preparation works carried out until present included the installation of electric cables and creation of a water supply system. Under the modernization project, the mud from the water treatment station will be put into geotubes of different sizes made from resistant textiles for dehydration. ACC specialists say that this way the unpleasant smell of the mud will not be felt by the people living near the station, which is rather strong in summer. But this is a temporary solution. Earlier, the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca ordered the drafting of a decision for the Chisinau Municipal Council, whereby to ask for the sum needed to purchase the geotubes. The Council will hold the next meeting on May 14, the CEC secretary Valeriu Didencu has said.
