The employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations warn the population not to carry out intervention works on protection levees near the Nistru and Prut Rivers. Specialists say the access ways created by people, the ditches and channels dug by locals can lead to the inundation of farmland and homes, IPN reports.
In Răscăieți village of Ștefan Vodă district, owing to the changes made by people in the levee for irrigation needs, the water from the Nistru flooded a portion of land. Rescuers warn such actions can cause considerable damage, including the flooding of settlements situated near the river. To prevent similar situations, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations made an approach to the public authorities.
According to the information collected from local subdivisions of the Inspectorate, in 2020 the authorities of Răscăieți, Talmaza, Cioburciu, Crocmaz and Tudora villages of Ștefan Vodă district, together with rescuers, reinforced the levee near the settlements on a section of 3,589 meters along the bank of the Nistru.
This year, the levee in Ștefan Vodă district is to be strengthened on a distance of 69 km.
