Works on Orhei – Rezina road halted
The reconstruction of road R-20 from Orhei to Rezina, started later last year, has been stopped since a new project is being developed, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from Andrei Cuculescu, an official from the Constructions and Territorial Development Ministry.
Lafarge Ciment Moldova allocated 3 million euros to re-build this road of 46 km. At a news conference, Frederic Aubet, the general manager of the company, had said that, two weeks ago, he asked for a report on the operated works but got no answer. “According to our contract with the Constructions Ministry, the sponsor has the right to ask for this information,” Aubet specified.
When asked by Info-Prim Neo, Andrei Cuculescu has said the works were halted because a new project is being developed to allow for the movement of heavy trucks. “Soon we'll select the company to perform the works. The portion is rather big, we hope to have it finished next year,” Cuculescu said.
Frederic Aubet says the contract with the ministry provides that the money will be used exclusively to revamp the road. In case of failing to perform the works, the money can be returned to the sponsor. “I am optimistic and I think the road will be re-built, for the safety of the people and localities in the area, and for the sake of having good infrastructure,” Aubet said.
In 2008, Lafarge Ciment Moldova invested about 13 million lei in social projects.
