Working group to address issues concerning special status of Gagauzia

Head of Parliament Igor Corman made an order to create a working group that would examine the problems concerning the fulfillment of the constitutional provisions on the status of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. The decision was taken with the aim of ensuring an expert analysis of the problems related to the special status of Gagauzia and the implementation of the constitutional norms, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from Parliament, the working group will examine the compatibility of the Law on the Special Legal Status of Gagauzia with the Constitution, including the related legislation. It will also analyze the relations between the central public authorities and the local authorities of Gagauzia and will formulate proposals for ensuring more efficient interaction and better administration.

The group will be headed by MP Dumitru Diacov. It will consist of lawmakers representing all the parliamentary groups – Iurie Tap, Galina Balmos, Vadim Cojocaru, and Sergiu Sarbu – and of deputies of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia – Ivan Burgudji, Fiodor Gagauz, and Gheorghii Leiciu. It will also include the head of the General Legal Division of the Parliament’s Secretariat Ion Creanga and the deputy heads of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Demian Caraseni and Alexandr Tarnavschii.

The working group will cooperate with civil society and relevant international organizations and will submit proposals for adjusting the legislation to the Speaker.
