Women with breast cancer to get medicines free in local drugstores

For the first time the women diagnosed with breast cancer will be able to  eceive two pharmaceutical preparations free of charge directly from local drugstores. The medicines will be compensated with mandatory health insurance funds starting with January 1, 2024, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Health, about 2,500 patients who need such medicines will no longer need to travel to the Cancer Institute in Chisinau to get them.

“Even if the additional costs for transportation are covered by the National House of Social Insurance, the possibility of receiving the medicines directly in drugstores will be a significant advantage for these persons,” it is said in a press release.

The medicines with the common international names anastrozolum and tamoxifenum will be prescribed by the oncologist and the family doctor, based on the indications of the oncologist.
