Women members of Moldova’s Parliament on visit to Brussels

A Moldovan delegation consisting of women MPs is paying a fact-funding visit to Brussels on March 14-15. The lawmakers will meet with MEPs to discuss the women’s role in politics and combating of violence against women, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, the delegation is led by Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovici and includes Valentina Buliga, Oxana Domenti, Galina Balmos, Maria Ciobanu, Alla Dolinta, and Alina Zotea.

While in Brussels, the Moldovan MPs will discuss the activities of the EU in the context of the efforts made to strengthen the women’s role in the political life in Moldova. These will have meetings with women MEPs of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality.

The MPs will also meet with the Vice President of the European Parliament Ioan Mircea Pascu, European Parliament Rapporteur for Moldova Petras Auštrevičius, Chairman of the European Parliament Delegation for the Moldova - EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Andi Cristea and Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström.

The fact-finding visit was organized with the support of UNDP, within the Improving the Quality of Moldovan Democracy through Parliamentary and Electoral Support Project, and with financial support from the Government of Sweden.
