Women abandon work in favor of family much easier than men
Family responsibilities make every eighth woman of working age or about 14% of all the women to give priority to the partial work program, while men who assume such responsibilities represent only 2%, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a study of IDIS “Viitorul”.
In the lower age brackets (15-24/25-34), the women usually start work later. In this period, the women mainly get married, give birth and look after the first children. This is the period when more women than men interrupt their economic activity or abandon work in order to care for children of preschool age.
The study shows that the higher the number of children in the family, the lower is the number of women who continue their professional occupations. The number of housewives thus increases. Each fifth woman would like a job with full program. The women tend to work over program at most three hours a week, while the men prefer to work at least five hours a week over program, hoping for promotion.
The rate of employed women older than 35 is higher than of men of the same age – 53.7% to 46.3%. The participation of women in economic activity is the greatest in the 40-44 and 45-49 age categories, with over 60% of the women of these ages being involved in work. The rise in the employment rate among women from these age brackets is partially influenced by the return from maternity leave and the low level of population’s incomes. Unlike men, the women prefer a stable job, rather than a high salary.
