The woman responsible for a deadly accident last Monday has died in hospital. Svetlana Ungureanu, 33, was pronounced dead at around 10:00 a.m. today, IPN learned from a Ministry of Health spokesperson.
Dr. Igor Curov, deputy director of the Emergency Hospital, told a press briefing that the woman underwent two major surgeries over the past week. While there were some signs of improvement, her condition remained extremely critical at all times.
Three other persons injured in the accident remain hospitalized at the Emergency Hospital. Dr. Curov offered no updates on the children wounded in the crash, as they have been admitted to another hospital.
The accident occurred on September 30, on Alba Iulia Street in Chisinau’s Buiucani sector, when Ungureanu, while under the influence, ran a red light and crashed her SUV at 130kmh into a trolleybus full of passengers. Her unbuckled front-seat passenger died immediately, while 28 people, including children returning from school, needed medical attention.
