A woman aged 36 was hit mortally in a crosswalk on Socoleni St in Chisinau in the evening of January 13, The hit-and-run driver was arrested shortly afterward. This was a patrol officer who was outside his working hours when the accident happened, according to the police, IPN reports.

The General Police Inspectorate said the woman was crossing the street legally. The police managed to identify the driver by the license plate found at the scene.

The vehicle was found on Podgorenilor St. The driver was in the car together with his wife. It was the personal car of an employee of the National Public Security Inspectorate, as the General Police Inspectorate said.

The patrol officer aged 25 was remanded in custody for 72 hours.

Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate Diana Fetco said the result of the blood alcohol test is not yet known. In internal inquiry was launched to determine the circumstances of this case.
