Woman struck dead by lightning

A 31-year-old woman from Glinjeni village, Falesti district, was struck dead by lightning on Sunday, July 15. Her husband was hospitalized. The couple had children. Sources within the Glinjeni town hall told Info-Prim Neo that the woman and her husband went on the field to take home their calf, when the lightning struck. It is supposed that they had their mobile phones turned on. It is not clear whether the man was touched by the lightning or just jumped to help her. He was hospitalized in a severe condition. The family had two children: a 3 year old girl and an 11 year old boy. According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, seven people have been struck by lightning since the beginning of the year. The safeguards recommend people to avoid open spaces during lightning storms. After Sunday’s rainfall, about 100 settlements in 13 districts were left without electricity and fixed telephony was cut in 7 settlements in 4 districts. Over 100 trees were brought down by the wind in 12 districts, blocking many streets and damaging three gas pipes. The roofs of 30 private houses, 2 culture houses, 7 education institutions and two town halls were damaged as well.
