A driver struck two women by his car in Nisporeni town in the evening of February 20 and didn’t stop to help. The women, aged 62 and 77, travelled along the sidewalk and were hit suddenly by the car that made a turn at high speed and went out of control, IPN reports

The collision was fatal for one of them. The woman died shortly after the accident occurred. The other woman suffered serious injuries. The General Police Inspectorate announced that the driver was arrested. This is a 51-year-old man from Varzaresti village of Nisporeni district.

According to the police, the driver arrived home and tried to hide the vehicle in his yard, but was escorted to the inspectorate.  He faces three to seven years in jail and ban on driving vehicles for a period of up to four years for violation of traffic rules that led to the death of a person.

The National Patrolling Inspectorate calls on the drivers and other persons involved in road accidents to give first aid to the victims and to immediately call the police, the ambulance service and the firefighters, if necessary.
