Woman killed in fire in Criuleni

A woman died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a fire that happened in Criuleni last night. According to preliminary inquires, the fire was the result of careless smoking, Info-Prim Neo reports. Liliana Puscasu, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, said that the fire started in an apartment located on the first floor of a two-story building. Most probably, the woman inhaled toxic gases emitted by the smoldering bedlinen. The neighbors saw smoke coming out and called the firefighters and an ambulance. According to them, the woman lived with her daughter, who wasn’t at home at that moment. The woman used to drink alcoholic drinks. The apartment was disconnected from heat and electric power supply. The over 2,000 fires that occurred in Moldova so far this year resulted in 124 deaths. Seven of the victims were children.
