A Sângerei woman, 38, was hit with a 12,500 lei ($620) fine for riding an electric scooter while under the influence.
The General Police Inspectorate said the woman was pulled over after riding the device “chaotically”. A breath test showed an alcohol concentration of 1.23 mg/l.
From the beginning of this year, 50 traffic incidents/accidents involving electric scooters were reported. One person died and 50 others were injured.
To prevent accidents, e-scooter riders are reminded they must cross the street at pedestrian crossings; they must dismount and push the device by its handlebars when crossing. Also, riders are reminded to wear protective equipment and a reflective vest, be always mindful of pedestrians and not drive the wrong way on one-way streets, among other rules.
