A woman was taken to the hospital with a broken leg after she fell into a ditch that was 4 meters deep. The channel was dug illegally on a street in Botanica district of Chisinau. No relevant warning signals were placed there, IPN reports.

Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the excavation works were performed without authorization near a church under construction on Sarmizegetusa St. The contractor that dug the ditch has been in conflict for two years with the dwellers living near the building site, while the State Labor Inspectorate sued it.

“It is a serious case and there will be imposed penalties on the officials in charge. They will have to provide explanations in written form within 24 hours. I will spare no one,” said the mayor. He ordered that money be allocated from the municipality’s reserve fund for the medical services needed by the woman.
