A 23-year-old woman from Criuleni was sentenced to 19 years in jail for murdering her child aged three. In court, the woman said she decided to kill him because she did not have money to raise him and because his father was her sister's partner, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Prosecutor General's Office. The investigation into this case was launched two years ago, when the child went missing. When the investigators started to suspect the mother, she told them she sold her kid to an unidentified person for US$600 and then went to the United Arab Emirates to prostitute herself. The prosecution proved that in August 2007 the young mother threw her child in the river Nistru and was mentally healthy when she did it. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
