Woman dies because of AH1N1 flu complications

A woman aged 45 from the municipality of Chisinau died on February 10 after developing complications of the AH1N1 flu. Another man infected with the same virus is in a serious condition.

Medical vice director of the Municipal Clinical Hospital No. 1 Ion Artenii has told IPN that the woman was admitted to the intensive care section in a serious state on February 6. She was diagnosed with pneumonia caused by the AH1N1 flu virus. After four days of treatment, the women died.

A 36-year-old man is now receiving treatment for pneumonia caused by AH1N1 in the same section. Ion Artenii said the patient’s state of health is grave.

Contacted by IPN, Petru Scoferta, of the National Scientific-Practical Center of Preventive Medicine, said that 20 cases of flu have been confirmed so far this year, 13 of which are type B cases, while 7 are AH1N1 cases. Compared with the corresponding period last year, the number of cases of flu has halved. However, a new wave is expected in the second half of February.

Specialists recommend taking prophylaxis measures, such as eating products that contain vitamin C (lime, blackcurrant and redcurrant) and phytoncide products (garlic, onion) as these are antimicrobial, leading a healthy lifestyle, without smoking and alcohol, avoiding crowded places and contact with infected persons, washing the hands more often, and airing the rooms.
