A 44-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son were found dead in their house in Japca village of Florești district. It is presumed that they suffered carbon monoxide poisoning, IPN reports.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that, following a call made to the emergency number 112, a crew of rescuers and firefighters travelled to the scene. Preliminarily, specialists determined that the woman and the child got poisoned by carbon dioxide emitted by the stove. There was no fire.
Rescuers call on the population to strictly observe the safety rules when using stoves and other heating sources. The people are urged to check the stoves carefully before lighting the fire in them. The ventilation ducts must be free to prevent the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. To avoid fires, it is recommended to keep flammable materials far from the stove. At night, the fire must be put out.
According to data of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the 62 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning recorded so far this year resulted in seven deaths.
