An 80-year-old woman perished in a fire in a third-floor apartment situated in Rascani district of Chisinau in the morning of November 5. She died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Called by neighbors, the firemen managed to extinguish the fire quickly and prevented its spread to other apartments of the five-story building.
Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Liliana Puscasu has told IPN that the woman lived alone. In the room where the body was found, the bed and the bed clothes were destroyed by fire.
Update: As a result of the examinations performed at the scene, it was established that the fire wasn’t caused by a smoldering cigarette, as it was presumed initially, but by the electrical appliance with which the elderly woman confined to bed heated herself.
