A woman from Chisinau accuses her former husband of sexually abusing their minor daughter for several years. In a news conference at IPN, the woman said the prosecutors and police officers avoid her and she thus decided to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), IPN reports.

The woman related that in 2003 she caught her husband raping their daughter aged 17. Later the girl told her mother that she had been raped since she was 12, sometimes before the eyes of the younger brother. The investigation started at the woman’s insistence lasted for seven years. Afterward, the case was closed for lack of evidence. In the same period, the man was investigated for theft and hooliganism, but wasn’t convicted as he allegedly offered bribe. At the end of this May, the man was arrested again for theft.

Even if he is under arrest, the woman is afraid that he will be released this time too. She said that even if there were enough proofs to try him for pedophilia, he escaped punishment.

The woman complained to the ECHR and in May the High Court communicated the case to the Government of Moldova.

The woman said that her ex-husband is the owner of a Chisinau club, which is often visited by drug addicts and minors from socially deprived families. The woman is convinced that the man abused sexually those children as well.

In the same news conference, Fiodor Ghelici, chairman of the public association “Moldova Mea”, which provides consultancy to the woman, said that the prosecutors, judges and police officers are the most corrupt in Moldova. According to him, instead of fighting pedophilia, the Moldovan authorities allocate money for useless reforms like the reform in the justice sector and of the police. As the state institutions are managed by corruptible persons, they cannot defend the country’s people.
