Two persons were questioned as witnesses in the criminal case started against suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo. According to the prosecutor who handles the case, Victor Furtună, witnesses’ statements and other collected evidence confirm the accusations made against Stoianoglo, IPN reports.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said that searches were carried out in the office of Alexandr Stoianoglo and three diaries, documents and notes on over 2,000 pages were seized as a result. An electronic communication device was examined with the participation of an expert and relevant evidence was identified.
“The prosecutors dealing with this case continue to take the necessary measures to fully and objectively investigate all the circumstances of this case and to discover the truth. Additional details will be provided when procedural decisions referring to Alexandr Stoianoglo and other persons involved are taken,” says a press release signed by Victor Furtună.
Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is suspended from office while under investigation on charges of abuse of office, perjury and facilitation of crime, is under house arrest. Stoianoglo denies any wrongdoing. At the request of President Maia Sandu, the Superior Council of Prosecutors constituted a commission for assessing Alexandr Stoianoglo’s job as prosecutor general. If the assessment commission finds the results to be negative, the Superior Council of Prosecutors can recommend the President to dismiss the prosecutor general.
