Dumitru Gumen ranked best among the Moldovan athletes who competed in the Youth World Boxing Championships held in Saint Petersburg. He finished ninth in the 75 kg class, IPN reports.

In the first match, Gumen beat Egypt’s Emad Elsayed, but then lost to Diego Pereyra of Venezuela. Egor Bejenaru, Ion Carajia, Victor Vacula, Alexandru Paraschiv and Ahmed Cemortan were eliminated at the very first stage.

The Youth World Boxing Championships involves 402 pugilists from 70 countries. The tournament closes on November 26.
