Without fence in Chisinau's central square on Europe Day
Though there was no protection fence in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau on May 15, Europe Day passed without incidents, the municipal police chief Silviu Musuc said at the City Hall's meeting on May 17, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Silviu Musuc said a large number of police officers were involved in ensuring public order during the activities held to celebrate Europe Day. There was created a human chain and 11 passageways, as opposed to 5-6 passages during the previous celebrations. The police searched the persons who came to the concert held in the evening for guns and alcoholic drinks.
Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the protection measures during large-scale events will be different and will depend on the information collected beforehand. He asked the municipal police chief to choose several effective methods to ensure public order.
Drastic protection measures were instituted after an unidentified person exploded a grenade near the Triumphal Arch on the Day of Chisinau, injuring over 35 persons.
