“With Moldova, we have a common history and the same language and culture,” Traian Basescu
Helping Moldova come closer to the EU is the 'heart project' of the President of Romania for the immediate future. Traian Basescu made the statement at a meeting with the ambassadors working in Bucharest on January 20. He said this 'heart project' is the reason why he will pay his first visit abroad of his second term in office to Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Romanian press.
“The solidarity animates our efforts aimed at supporting Moldova. We all know that Romania and its Eastern neighbor have special relations. With Moldova, we have a common history and the same language and culture. Romanians live on both banks of the Prut and this reality makes the support for Moldova's European aspirations my heart project,” Basescu said.
According to Bssescu, preconditions have been now created to reestablish relations based on trust, solidarity and common goals. “We will be making efforts inside the EU to include Moldova in the historical space to which it belongs. The Transnistrian conflict is an obstacle that must be overcome. We consider the EU can play a greater role in this respect,” the Romanian President said.
Traian Basescu will be visiting Chisinau on January 27 and 28. The program of the visit includes meetings with Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca and a trip to Tiganca, where there is the Romanian Heroes' Cemetery.
