The State-Owned Enterprise “Radiocomunicatii” informs that subscribers willing to cancel their wired radio service can do so at the enterprise’s headquarters, with their ID and the receipt from their last payment. Adrian Ciofu, the enterprise’s head manager, stated for Info-Prim Neo that the subscriber applying for cancellation is almost immediately disconnected. There is no need for someone from the company to go and cut the radio wires; the individual’s service bills simply cease to update. Since the beginning of this year over 10 thousand people annulled their wired radio subscriptions, i.e. almost 15% of the entire subscriber base. The head manager of “Radiocomunicatii” says that a proposal to completely cease this service came as early as 1994. Most rural households receive a device that allowed them to listen to wireless radio. Nevertheless, it was decided to keep the service running for Chisinau. “The national radio channel can be received wirelessly through FM waves, as well as through medium waves. Nowadays the service is provided in three ways, keeping in mind that it is broadcast for free wirelessly. We proposed the cessation of the wired service, because it was causing around 1.3 mil lei of annual losses. There are, however, people who did not accept to cancel their subscriptions; thus, we were forced to adjust our prices from 3.36 lei per month to 8.76 lei per month, in order to cover the broadcast costs”, said Adrian Ciofu. The subscription cost will rise even higher if the number of subscribers’ cancellations increases. “The expenses are divided to the number of subscribers left. There are fewer subscribers, but the expenses stay the same, and thus the cost per subscriber increases”, explained Adrian Ciofu. Presently, around 45 thousand people are subscribed to the wired radio service, whereas daily between 150 and 250 people cancel it. The enterprise is located on 28/2 Drumul Viilor street, and works Monday through Friday, from 8 am till 5 pm.
