The Chamber of Trade and Industry, which organizes the contest, said in a press release that the competition aims to promote national traditions of home wine-making elevate the drinking culture and facilitate contacts between wine-makers. “The competition is an effective way of promoting producers of home-made wine, who need to be encouraged, supported and guided”, said Vladimir Didilica, the Chamber's vice president. This year's competition involved 500 individual wine-makers from different districts of the country. Only pure, additive-free wines of the 2010 vintage were allowed to compete. 70 wines were selected to participate in the final tasting, which took place on March 25 in Chisinau. There are four nominations and two categories in each: white and red. Anatol Balanuta, the chairman of the tasting jury and also the head of the Technical University's Oenology Department, highlighted the quality of the competing wines. “The wines made by households represent the specific of a particular geographical area.
