Wines lose ground in Moldova
The wine products made Moldova famous in many countries. The efforts made by the over 250,000 people working in the sector deserve being recognized on the home market as well. We must learn to choose wines of a high quality and develop a wine consumption culture, the chairman of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Moldova Eugen Pislaru said in the first Wine Show, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The event will be held at least two times a year in order to promote the culture of balanced consummation of natural wines in Moldova.
The first Wine Show involved 20 companies. Prime Minister Vlad Filat welcomed the initiative of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Moldova to organize such an event to promote the wines of a high quality on the domestic market.
”They now speak more about the diversification of the markets where the Moldovan wines can be sold, entering of the Chinese and U.S. markets, recovery of the positions in the CIS, but the figures show we are losing ground in our country. For example, 44 million bottles of vodka and only 9 million of bottles of wine were sold in Moldova in 2010,” said Vlad Filat.
He also said that the Government will continue to support the wine producers and they will be exempted from excise duties if the budgetary-fiscal policy is approved in the form presented by the executive.
”The wine producers need our support. They do their job well and we should be the ambassadors of the Moldovan wine abroad and promote it. The development of this branch will help develop the whole industry of Moldova,” U.S. Ambassador to Moldova William Moser said in the event.
The Wine Show was staged on December 20 by the Association of Producers and Exporters of Moldova with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the Second Competitiveness Enhancement and Enterprise Development Project (CEED II), which is financed by the US Agency for International Development.
