The preliminary version of the software Winemaking and Winegrowing Register was approved and launched on a trial basis. The data from all the applications for registering vineyards will be added to the software by the end of this summer. During the second quarter of this year, the software designer plans to interconnect it with the State Population Register and the State Register of Lawful Units, which will contribute to increasing transparency in Moldova’s wine industry, IPN reports.
According to the National Office of Vine and Wine, the decision to launch and test the software was taken in a joint meeting of the Office, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the National Rural Development Agency ACSA and the Agricultural Information Center.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Eduard Grama said that in a country with century-old traditions in winemaking and winegrowing, the monitoring of all the players involved in the wine making process became an obligation in the era of speed and information. By designing this Register, they aimed to create favorable conditions for knowing exactly the characteristics of those involved in the winemaking sector and to increase the quality of raw material and bottled wine so as to enhance the competitiveness of these products on the domestic and external markets.
National Office of Vine and Wine director Dumitru Munteanu said the register is a project of major importance for the quality of the Moldovan wine, which will ensure transparency throughout the technological process.
The software for the Winemaking and Winegrowing Register was worked out with financial support from the Czech Development Agency and was built based on a similar register of the Czech Republic, which was launched over 10 years ago. Czech Ambassador to Moldova Zdeněk Krejčí said the Czech Republic is a partner of Moldova in implementing projects to develop the agricultural sector, in particular the wine industry. “The creation and keeping of the Winemaking and Winegrowing Register by the Czech model will ensure the transfer of technology and knowhow. Our goal is to offer the Republic of Moldova support in assessing and adjusting the Register to the EU standards so as to ultimately obtain the traceability of the wine products and to enter new markets,” stated the diplomat.
The Winemaking and Winegrowing Register is intended for all the winemakers and winegrowers that possess vineyards with table grapes and sorts of grapes for making wine larger than 0.15 ha. The inclusion of the winemakers and winegrowers in the register is mandatory, except for farmers who use the grapes only for own consumption.
