Window tinting outlawed
Fresh amendments to Traffic Regulations make it illegal to apply tint films to the windscreen and front-side windows of vehicles. The interdiction comes into force upon the publication of the modifications in the Official Gazette, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Interior Minister Valentin Mejinschi told reporters that 2437 road accidents were registered in Moldova in 2007, 1976 of which occurred because of the drivers. 1 accident in 6 (328 cases) were caused by drivers violating maneuvering rules because of the limited field of view determined by the unlawful practice of tinting of the windshield and the front-side windows.
According to the minister, the legal provisions do not offer the police adequate leverages to prevent and counter such contraventions. Policemen can either warn or fine the wrongdoers. “We believe the best solution is to unscrew registration plates from the cars of those who do not respect the rules and return them on condition that the tinting is removed”, Mejinschi pointed out.
Although some of the driving license holders within the Government seemed not to quite like the new regulations, the members of the executive could not oppose the amendment. The Minister of Transport and Road Management, Vasile Ursu, for instance, asked his colleague whether the amendment would apply to all drivers, including influential persons. The answer was affirmative.
