At the general local elections of October 20, Victor Chironda is running for the position of general mayor of Chisinau municipality on behalf of the "New Force" Social-Political Movement. Victor Chironda is a civic activist, expert in urban development and public transport. On July 3, 2019, he became a municipal councillor on behalf of "European People's Platform of Moldova - Iurie Leancă" Bloc.
The candidate is 30 years old and was born in Chisinau. He spent the first years of his life in the capital, after which his family relocated in Stefan Voda district. In 2008 he returned to the capital, for studies. He studied history at the State University and public administration at the Academy of Public Administration. Later, between 2016-2018, he studied urbanism and modern urban development in Brussels, Copenhagen, Vienna and Madrid within the framework of 4CITIES Euromaster in Urban Studies programme.
Five years ago, he mobilized the inhabitants of the capital to save the square in front of the A.P. Chekhov Theatre. He created the concept of modernizing the territory and started collecting funds. Besides this square, he initiated and got involved in the arrangement of Onisifor Ghibu square in Pushkin Street, where a warehouse was to be built.
Under "Green cities for Moldova" project, Victor Chironda coordinated the development of a Design Guide for the Streets in Chisinau and initiated the development of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for Chisinau. The candidate is a co-founder of the Urban Civic Network, an umbrella organization of civic activists in Chisinau.
In the declaration of assets and interests submitted to the Central Election Commission, the candidate mentioned that he obtained, during the period of January 1, 2017- December 31, 2018, revenues in the amount of more than 63 thousand lei from the expert activity. He also mentioned a 19 thousand-euro scholarship. The candidate owns a car.
Victor Chironda will be number six on the ballot. His team for Chisinau Municipal Council consists of 34 people. Victor Chironda says he wants to release the capital from the politicians’ hands and turn it into a city of people. The candidate set out to make Chisinau a city where amenities, opportunities and safety are within everyone's reach. Victor Chironda aims to develop a quality, efficient public transport network and to arrange parking lots on the streets and near the apartment blocks. The candidate pleads for the repairs to the run-down apartment blocks, wants to develop an educational system for everyone and another designed for cleaning and sanitation. Another item of his electoral program is the pedestrian safety, the streamlining of road traffic, but also the capitalization on the Bâc river, the main water source in the city.
