The candidate of Șor Political Party for the position of mayor of Chisinau municipality is also the party’s honorary president.
He graduated from the Journalism Department of Lvov State University, Ukraine. Valerii Klimenko obtained his PhD in history at the Russian Academy of Sciences. He has worked as a journalist and scientific collaborator. He created and led the Congress of Russian Communities in Moldova.
In 1998 he set up and became the leader of "Ravnopravie" Social-Political Movement. Between 1999-2011, he was part of Chisinau City Council, being elected on the lists of the "Ravnopravie" Movement.
Between 2002-2003, he chaired the Congress of Russian communities from the Republic of Moldova in the Council of compatriots next to the State Duma of the Russian Federation. From 2003 to 2019, he was a member of the Directorate of the International Council of Russian Compatriots.
In 2016, he initiated the reorganization of "Ravnopravie" Social-Political Movement, and as a result it became the Șor Political Party. Valerii Klimenko has previously run for mayor. In the elections of June 2011 he accumulated 0.22% of the votes, and in the 2015 elections - 0.09%.
During a presentation event for the October 20 elections, Valerii Klimenko has specified that he will change Chisinau according to Orhei town model. “In Orhei, our team has succeeded in carrying out social, humanitarian, infrastructural projects which allow us to say that there are no towns like Orhei in terms of urban planning and cleanliness. If we compared Chisinau to Orhei, it would be to the detriment of the capital,” he said.
According to the income declaration for the period January 1, 2017- December 31, 2018, the candidate obtained, together with his wife, salaries worth over 49 thousand lei. During this time the spouses have also received a pension - almost 142 thousand lei. The family owns two land plots, two apartments and two cars, a Mercedes and a Hyundai.
