WHO experts assess Moldovan health system’s capacity to respond to possible disasters and emergencies

A mission of the World Health Organisation (WHO) is assessing the Moldovan health system’s preparedness for and capability to respond to possible catastrophes and emergencies, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Health Ministry’s press service. The Disaster Response and Preparedness Mission of the WHO Regional Office for Europe will be in Chisinau on a working visit between February 29 and March 4. While in Moldova, the mission will determine the disasters typical of Moldova and the health system’s capacity to respond to emergencies and will later provide the support necessary to develop the system. The experts will visit the National Scientific Practical Centre for Emergency Medicine, the National Scientific and Practical Centre of Preventive Medicine as well as healthcare institutions in the Cahul district. The programme of the visit includes meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Ecology, the State Hydrometeorology Service and officials of the Civil Protection and Emergency Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The working visit was organised as part of the World Health Organisation’s cooperation with Moldova under the Public Health division of the EU-Moldova Action Plan.
