Who are three independents who won in constituencies

In three of the 51 single-member constituencies, the elections were won by independent candidates, according to the preliminary results. These are Ion Groza, Alexandr Oleinic and Viorel Melnic, IPN reports.

Constituency No. 43, which includes Cahul town and ten villages of Cahul district, will be represented in Parliament by Ion Groza, a teacher of theology. He was director of a Christian foundation and served as a priest at a church. For over ten years, he worked at the district Firefighting Service. He entered politics in 2000. He was a member of the “Our Moldova” Alliance and then became a member of the Liberal Democratic Party. In 2000 - 2015, he served as a district councilor. He headed the Cahul local organization of the PLDM. After the local elections of 2015, he became the head of Cahul district.

Constituency No. 47 Camenca, Dubăsari, Grigoriopol and Râbnița, which embraces the towns of Camenca, Dubăsari, Grigoriopol and Râbnița and the localities of the four districts, will be represented in the legislative body by Alexandr Oleinic, an engineer by profession. He served as an MP in 2001-2009 an as a minister of information and communications in 2009 - 2011. Currently, he heads the administration board of the concern Milenium Management Grup. Since 2012, he has managed the People’s Party.

The elections in constituency No. 48 Transnistrian Region, South, which includes the towns of Slobozia, Tighina and Tiraspol, were won by independent Viorel Melnic, an economist by profession. He teaches at the Agrarian University. Viorel Melnic headed the Customs Service and was deputy minister of economy.

The preliminary results, with 100% of the votes cast in the February 24 elections being counted, show the Party of Socialists gained 35 seats of MP, 17 of which in single-member constituencies. The Democratic Party won 30 seats, 17 of which in single-member constituencies. The electoral bloc ACUM Platform DA and PAS obtained 26 seats, 12 of which in single-member constituencies, while the Shor Party – seven seats, two of which in constituencies.

The turnout at last Sunday’s elections was 49,22%, which is 1 453 013 voters.
