Two tiger cubs were born at the Zoological Garden in Chisinau. One of them is white, while another one is red. The animals will be isolated for a period, but could be then admired by visitors.
Contacted by IPN for details, the head of the Zoo’s Strategic Planning Division Olga Iuzvac said the animals are isolated as their mother, who gave birth for the first time, is yet very stressed and aggressive. She can abandon or traumatize the cubs if humans become involved and the cubs will need to be fed on formula, which is not so good.
Olga Iuzvac also said that in the wild, the female animals become aggressive when they protect their young. In this case, the male borrowed the behavior. That’s why only the head of the wild animals section has access to them, but with increased precaution. The tigers know him, but are aggressive towards him now too.
The two cubs are the first born to the pair of tigers that were brought from Belgium four years ago. “The fact that two whelps were born to a young couple is rejoicing. This shows that all the necessary conditions were created for them. Now they will enjoy even better treatment,” Olga Iuzvac, noting this will include a richer food so that the cubs fed by the female tiger grow healthy.
The sex of the two tiger cubs is not yet known.
