The winter holiday season brings a variety of tourist options for Moldovans, from skiing in mountain resorts to relaxing on sunny beaches and exploring EU countries. Romania, Bulgaria and European cities famous for their Christmas fairs are the favorite destinations, IPN reports.
Mountain vacations and city breaks are the most popular. Mountain resorts in Romania and Bulgaria are Moldovans' favorites, attracting tourists because of their proximity and affordable prices. IPN's correspondent spoke to travel agencies to get details about offers and prices.
"If we talk about mountains, the most popular destinations are Brasov, Poiana Brasov, Bansko and Pomporovo. Most opt for 3-5 nights, and prices start from €150-160 per person, including transportation", said Anna Rucan, manager at Triffany Tour agency.
City breaks are also in demand, especially for Christmas fairs. "Vienna, Budapest and Prague are top favorites for a Christmas city break. 3-5 nights cost between €150 and €200, depending on the destination and the period," Sofia Conișescu, director of the Balti branch of Favorit-Tur, told IPN.
For those fleeing the cold, Egypt and Dubai are the main options, thanks to direct flights from Chisinau. "The most popular seaside locations are in Egypt and Dubai. Those with big budgets rest in the Maldives, Tanzania or Sri Lanka. Prices start from €300 for seven nights," says Mariana Sirbu, director of the Travel Vibe agency.
The agency does not recommend Moldovans to buy vacation tickets to Ukraine because of the war.
"We don't make offers and we don't encourage tourists to choose this destination as long as our neighbors are at war and we cannot guarantee the safety of our clients", explained the head of the "Travel Vibe" agency.
Travel agencies note that Moldovans are gradually diversifying their winter vacation options from one year to the next, seeking a balance between relaxation and activities, depending on preferences and budget.
However, according to the director of another agency, "Favorit-Tur" in Balti, "Ukraine is still one of the top destinations, there are many bookings and requests for Bucovel, not necessarily because it is cheaper, but because it is the closest and people can easily escape for a few days by personal transport", said Sofia Conisescu.
Budget remains the main factor in tourists' decisions, followed by the length of the trip and the activities on offer. Families with children choose hotels with facilities, including saunas and children's play areas, while young people prefer affordable accommodation. People over 50 opt for comfort and personalized offers.
