When will first bills signed by current governor appear?

The store of the National Bank of Moldova is enough to put into circulation the bills with the signature of ex-governor Dorin Dragutanu during many years in the future. In a response to IPN’s inquiry, the central bank says the bills will be signed by the current governor Sergiu Cioclea when the store is used up and new banknotes need to be printed.

The 1 leu, 10 lei, 20 lei and 50 lei bills become shabby most often. The average life of a 1 leu bill is of one year and a half, while of the 10 lei, 20 lei and 50 lei bills is shorter.

According to the National Bank of Moldova, the money withdrawn from circulation can no longer be replaced. Only the banknotes in circulation can be changed and these are available at the bank’s website.

As regards the replacement of metallic coins with bills, this can be done at authorized banks that must change the money for private individuals and legal entities in unlimited amounts without charging commission.
