Wheat prices do not cover producers’ costs

The producers sell food wheat at the price of 2,200 lei per tonne (2.2 lei/kg), while the price of fodder wheat is 2,050-2,150 lei/tonne, depending on districts, said the chairman of the National Association of Agricultural Producers “UniAagroProtect” Alexandru Slusari. According to him, the prices are lower than in the neighboring states Ukraine and Romania and do not cover the production costs, IPN reports.

In a discussion held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Alexandru Slusari noted that in a month or a month and a half, the prices could be slightly higher. However, owing to the lack of money and the accumulated debts, many agricultural producers have to sell the wheat immediately after harvesting it.

Minister Eduard Grama said that no solutions were suggested in the discussion. They only formulated some conclusions. The wheat prices decline on the international market too. The situation of the Moldovan producers is more difficult because the purchase price of wheat is influenced by the large imports of flour and pasta from Ukraine and other countries.
