Though a part of the fields in Stefan Voda district were affected by hail and torrential rain, the amounts of wheat gathered from more than half of the areas show that the harvest will meet the expectations. The farmers from southern Moldova this year managed to obtain a rich harvest of wheat, barley, rye and peas, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the farmers from Stefan Voda have harvested by 3.4 – 4.5 tonnes of grain per hectare from most of the fields.

Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov had a meeting with agricultural producers, where they discussed the steps taken by the Government to support agriculture and the launch of the US$10 million project “Emergency Support to Agriculture”. The discussions also centered on the subsidization of agriculture and the measures taken to improve the situation in the main sector of the country’s economy.
