Wheat collected in Transnistrian region covers consumption minimum
98% of the cereal yield in the Transnistrian region has already been collected. The farmers managed to have collected 132,000 tons by now. The amounts cover the consumption minimum, the Transnistrian news agency Olvia-press reported.
The region’s deputy agriculture chief Fedot Tsybulsky communicated that the best wheat yield was registered in Slobozia, and the worst in Dubasari. The entire yield was compromised by the severe drought. A total of 57,000 hectares were sown with wheat in the Transnistrian region.
“The cereal collected is sufficient for satisfying local needs. However, we have nothing to export. There is too little fodder wheat this year”, added Fedot Tsybulsky.
The collection of sun-flower will start in mid-August. Currently losses are estimated at 30%, but the situation is not catastrophic. Fedot Tsybulsky said the corn’s situation is much worse. Farmers from the region were forced to cut most of their corn and feed it to their animals, in order to avoid losing the entire yield.
All throughout Moldova corn was initially affected by drought, and later by strong hailstorms.
