What kind of electoral system do Moldovans prefer?

Almost 37% of the respondents of the Public Opinion Barometer for this November said they are for a party-list proportional representation system for choosing MPs. Slightly over 19% of those polled said they are for the uninominal voting system, while 16% for the mixed-member electoral system. About 28% didn’t know or didn’t answer, IPN reports.

Asked if they know what the uninominal voting system for parliamentary elections is, almost 51% of those surveyed said they do not know, while 45% said they know. 4.5% do not know or didn’t answer. Compared with the survey presented in the spring of this year, the number of those who gave an affirmative answer is lower. In April this figure stood at 58%.

Almost half of the respondents of the Public Opinion Barometer for November said they trust no Moldovan politician. Some 86.8% of those interviewed said Moldova is not governed by the will of the people, an increase of 17% compared with the previous survey.

About 76.3% of those surveyed consider the elections in Moldova are not free and fair. This is by 20% more compared with the previous poll.

The survey was conducted between November 18 and December 5, 2017 and covered a sample of 1 113 persons older than 18 from 82 communities of Moldova, except for the Transnistrian region. The margin of sampling error is +/- 2.8%.
