The members of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) are not yet decided whether to take part in the meeting called by Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca for June 30 or not. Only the Liberal group confirmed its presence.
Head of the Socialist councilors Ion Ceban questions the legality of the order to call the meeting signed by the mayor, who is under house arrest. He reminded that the CMC meeting set for June 29 was convened by one third of the councilors and an agenda was suggested. Asked about the two candidates for deputy mayor proposed by Dorin Chirtoaca, Liberals Mihai Moldovanu and Valeriu Munteanu, Ceban said the first made foolish mistakes at the Health Division, while the second at the Ministry of Environment and none of these can be considered upright persons.
The Liberal councilors’ leader Ion Cebanu said the Liberal group will take part in the June 30 meeting. As to the absence of the Liberals from the previous meetings convened by one third of councilors, Ion Cebanu said these weren’t called legally. He noted that the candidates for deputy mayor were suggested in order to unblock the situation and the Liberals will vote for these.
Veaceslav Bulat, of the group of the electoral bloc “European People’s Party – Iurie Leanca”, said the decision about the participation in the meeting will be taken in the group’s meeting. He noted it is too late to name deputy mayors. “I don’t think the CMC will support the two candidates who represent the Liberals. The CMC consists of five groups and of unaffiliated councilors. Even if we leave the Socialists aside, the candidates for deputy mayor should anyway be fielded by more groups,” he stated.
“Being under house arrest, Chirtoaca relishes Plahotniuc’s present for Ghimpu – the new law on Chisinau municipality. The mayor can nominate anyone for deputy mayor, even the guard of the Urban Bus Company. It’s simple: if the CMC fails to approve the candidates two times, the mayor confirms these by order,” said the councilor of “Our Party” Ilian Casu.
Councilor of the Liberal Democratic Party Adrian Culai stated he will take part in the meeting convoked by the mayor. As to the candidates proposed for deputy mayor, said these are to be examined in the meeting.
Democratic councilor Liviu Oboroc said the two candidates are a surprise and he hasn’t yet analyzed the pros and cons. The municipal organization of the Democratic Party is to be consulted. As regards the time when the deputy mayors are fielded, the councilor said it is an attempt by the mayor to enjoy support from his party inside the City Hall.
Unaffiliated councilor Ion Stefanita said it would be a mistake for the Liberal Party to follow such an egoistic path. The work should be divided with other colleagues, from other groups, or with persons from outside who could become involved in the management of the city.
There are four posts of deputy mayor in Chisinau municipality. Three of these are vacant. Nistor Grozavu serves as deputy mayor, but is under judicial control while he is investigated in the case of pay parking lots.
