Weightlifter Stefan Rosca qualifies for Paralympics
The 22-year-old weightlifter Stefan Rosca will represent Moldova at the 2012 London Paralympics. After he remained without legs, the athlete had to give up boxing, but started to lift heavy weights and now has qualified for the international competition that will take place in London on August 29 – September 9, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Prime Minister’s adviser on youth policies Tudor Darie wrote on his blog that he saw Stefan Rosca at the public TV channel Moldova 1 a year ago. “He was in a wheelchair. He related how he tried to save a stork and was electrocuted. He had his legs cut, but remained alive. I wanted to help him. I found him and we got aquatinted. He told me that he does not like when elderly women approach him to give him money,” said Tudor Darie.
Stefan Rosca also told him that he wanted to become a law student and to take part in the London Paralympics and become a champion. He entered the Law Faculty of the State University of Moldova in three months and then went to train abroad. Afterward, he took part in several international weightlifting competitions for athletes in wheelchairs. The Ministry of Youth and Sport provided support to him.
Tudor Darie said that Stefan Rosca’s participation in the London Paralympics will be an additional argument for the thousands of young Moldovans who are in wheelchairs, showing that disability can become an ability if there is will and courage.
