Moldovan weightlifter Marin Robu (89 kg) ranked 4th at the Paris Olympics. He lifted a total of 383 kg, IPN reports.
The Moldovan athlete was surpassed by Bulgaria’s Karlos May Nasar (404 kg), Colombia’s Yeison Lopez (390 kg) and Italy’s Antonio Pizzolato (384 kg).
The Moldovan Weightlifting Federation announced that it will appeal the decision of the referees, who, according to the Federation, awarded a wrong lift to the direct competitor and the third place. Respectively, the bronze medal was offered to the Italian athlete.
The Federation noted that Marin Robu completed the first test – snatch - within the limits of the of up to 89 kg class, lifting 175 kg and thus, obtaining the third spot in the provisional rankings and the second place in clean and jerk, lifting 208 kg. With a total of 283 kg, Marin ranked third, said the Federation.
This is the Moldovan weightlifter’s second participation in the Olympic Games. At the Tokyo Olympics, he ranked eighth.
