Weekend fires killed seven

Seven persons died from carbon monoxide poisoning in fires over the weekend. Dorina Cruc, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, told Info-Prim Neo that the fires were caused by lit cigarettes and defective stoves. A 49-year-old man from Miciurin village of Drochia district was discovered dead in his bed on Saturday morning. It was established that the man fell asleep with the lit cigarette, from which the bed clothes caught fire. A husband and wife aged 73 and 68 got poisoned with fumes from a fire that happened in their house in Malaiesti village of Criuleni district. A fire broke out from a faulty stove in an annexe in Braicau village of Donduseni district. The 81-year-old owner of the building was killed in the fire. A man aged 62 from Papauti village of Rezina district died in a fire that destroyed his bed. Two more fires are blamed on defective stoves. They took the lives of two men aged 65 and 72 from Falesti and Cantemir districts. The 25 fires that occurred in Moldova on Saturday and Sunday resulted in seven deaths.
