The third week of fight against trafficking in human beings entitled “Protected by Anti-Trafficking Community” will take place in Moldova between October 16 and 23. The event includes art exhibitions, thematic workshops and public debates that will be staged on the occasion of the EU Anti-Trafficking Day that is marked on October 18, IPN reports.
Ecaterina Berejan, head of the Permanent Secretariat of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, told a news conference that the population will be informed about the risks related to this phenomenon, emphasis being laid on the online recruitment methods. There will be also discussed the accessibility of the development assistance programs and services in Moldova, from which the victims and potential victims of human trafficking can benefit.
A public lesson titled “Ethical aspects of the medical practice for preventing trafficking in organs, tissues and human cells” will be given at the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” on October 20.
Statistics about the number of trafficked persons will be provided in a roundtable meeting on October 21, where there will be presented the strategic analysis report “Monitoring of situation concerning trafficking in human beings – analysis of the infraction state and dynamics for 2013”.
On October 23, there will be staged a street meeting entitled “Protected by Anti-Trafficking Community”, near the Triumphal Arch in Chisinau. In the afternoon of the same day, a public debate titled “Online safety” will be held at “B. P. Hasdeu” Library.
President of the International Center “La Strada” Daniela Misail-Nichitin said that over 5,000 calls were made to the national hotline 0 800 77777 in the first eight months of this year. 80% of these calls were made with the aim of finding out information about going abroad. “La Strada” created and manages the information portal www.siguronline.md, which is aimed at informing about and preventing cases of online harassment, encouraging also reporting of the presence of illegal or harmful content on the Internet.
