We witness a difficult moment for the European construction, PDM

“We witness a difficult moment for the European construction, but we are sure that the EU project will continue and will develop because it does not have an alternative on the European continent,” the Democratic Party (PDM) says in a press release, referring to the preliminary results of the referendum held in the UK on June 23.

“We express our respect for this impressive democratic exercise and for the options of the Brits, but we ascertain that it is an expressive example of the consequences provoked by the offensive of populism against political responsibility,” says the party.

According to the Democratic leader Marian Lupu, the European Union is a solid historical accomplishment and remains the only viable project for the peace and prosperity of the European countries. The PDM is convinced that now more than ever, the Republic of Moldova must step up its efforts on the path of European integration because only this way can bring the Moldovans welfare, social solidarity and good and respected laws. “Those voices that rejoice at the possibility of Brexit and speculate on this, demanding to abandon the road to Europe, are unconscious voices or voices that act against the interests of our country,” stated the politician.

In the June 23 referendum in the UK, about 52% of those who took part in it voted for the UK to leave the European Union.
