The ratification of the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women, the fight against hate speech and extension of the coverage of health services provided for the people, the improvement of the quality of these services, primarily for post-COVID-19 recovery, are measures needed to improve the state of affairs in the field of human rights in the context of the pandemic. The subjects were discussed by President Maia Sandu in a meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.
“We also discussed the importance of the access to a fair and independent justice system and the necessity of devoting increased attention to the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region. This way, we will be able to build a realty inclusive society in the Republic of Moldova, in which each person has a place and is respected,” stated Maia Sandu.
She thanked the commissioner for the attention paid to the human rights situation in the Republic of Moldova. “I assured her that she has an ally and a friend in the struggle for defending the rights of all the people in my person,” noted President Sandu.
