We should respect church canons and avoid excesses of any kind, priest

The bishop of the Church “Saint Teodora de la Sihla”, Archpriest Ioan Ciuntu recommends everyone to purify the soul before Resurrection. The morning before Easter should start with a prayer, a drink of with holy water and a piece of communion bread. The parishioners who go to meet God on Easter night should strictly respect church canons and avoid excesses of any kind.

The priest said in many cases the people lay emphasis on clothing, cleanness in the yard and the home. This cleanness should yet cover also the soul as all the other things go well there where the mind is clean.

On Resurrection Eve, the people should avoid listening to loud music, watching obscene movies and having discussions with people who are out of the spiritual circuit and should give up drinking alcohol. These can be replaced with spiritual music, a poem or prose that will contribute to high spirits on Easter.

“The eve should be lived by making sacrifice, providing aid and praying for those who are far away or are in Heaven. We must not yield to temptations that would affect that healthy part of our soul,” stated Ioan Ciuntu.

On Easter night, the priest ends the service with the blessing of foods, eggs and Easter bread and cakes. Some people, after blessing the food, take holy light to the relatives acquired by baptism or marriage ceremonies.

“On Easter, everything should be in moderate quantities, the holiday dishes on the first day, second day and third day as well. In discussions, the people should be in a good mood, but without exaggeration as we lose control of what is too much and then this has a negative effect on us,” said the priest.

Easter this year is celebrated on April 16.
